Hello. Thanks for the translation. It's a shame that the video disappeared from YouTube. Is there a chance that you still have the videos of the series?

Hey! As commenting was turned off for last translated episode (2) want to say thank you for all the work you've done and hope that there would be new translated episodes released, as MD Entertainment restricted access to their original videos. Waiting for new episodes!

Looks like episode 1 and episode 4 (work-in-progress that is uploaded but not finished yet) have both been blocked because it is marked as containing copyrighted material.

Odd that Episodes 2 and 3 are still up.

I still have the video files, and I still have the subtitle files. I will upload the final versions of the subtitle files here at least so that people can still use them, but it's not always easy to load ones' own subtitles onto a Youtube video.

I download the files with yt-dlp and then add the subtitle files myself, but I understand if not everyone would want to do that.

Thanks for the heads-up -- no idea why commenting was turned off. I re-enabled it -- it seems like every time I edit the file it disables comments for some reason -- I have no idea why that happens.

Thanks for the answer. Is there any possibility to upload the series to a third-party resource? Some fans were very upset that he was blocked from YouTube and would be very happy to see what was still left.

Yes, that's definitely a possibility. Do you have any suggestions for services that you would recommend? I don't really use video services anywhere outside of YouTube, but am happy to upload them wherever would be most convenient.

I'm also planning on trying to contact MD Entertainment to possibly see if our subtitle files can be added to the official ALFA videos on YouTube -- that would be ideal, IMO.

The community on whose behalf I am speaking will also arrange just video files that can be downloaded. I think Google Drive or Mega.nz will be suitable for these purposes. If you need a site where these videos can be played, I can suggest bunkrr.su, but of course such a site cannot be compared to YouTube. But now we are operating in a gray zone, so this is the only way. How many gigabytes are all the series that you have?

It seems to me that MD Entertainment had problems with copyright, so they hid all their videos

Oh wow -- I didn't realize that the original Alfa videos themselves were taken down. That's wild -- thanks for alerting me. Thankfully, I already have the full series downloaded.

40 episodes, totaling 9.6G. Definitely small enough that I could upload them to my personal Google Drive, or possibly experiment with hosting a small video site of my own, dedicated to the series.

So I can expect a link here when you upload the episodes? :)

Does this work for you?

I haven't added the subtitle files to these yet -- I need to sort through them and figure out which are the latest versions and which are the older auto-translated ones first, but this will at least give you access to the videos.

Yes it works. Many thanks for this link, for the hour spent.

And among the subtitles that you posted on Github, some may not be suitable?

Very welcome -- I'm glad others are getting enjoyment out of this! :) That's really encouraging to me.

And among the subtitles that you posted on Github, some may not be suitable?

They're "raw" auto-generated files out of Whisper.cpp, so have a number of issues. Namely:

  • They haven't had all music / sound-effect cues removed (<*applause*> types of notes)
  • They occasionally have duplicated entries
  • Timing is not cleaned up, and is approximate -- often needs to be shifted by a few seconds to line up perfectly.
  • Phrasing is often awkward, and needs to be cleaned up manually to make it sound more natural. Generally I clean this up by hand, and sometimes I run it through something like ChatGPT to help me clean it up further. Sometimes I even do other fun things, like I made the sorting hat speak in rhymes in the original episode 1 subtitle file, just for fun. :)
  • Sometimes there are euphemisms or figures of speech that don't translate correctly and need even more manual help. That's what issue Episode 1 correction #1 is about.

I have manually cleaned-up subtitles for 2.75 episodes (episodes 1 and 2 and most of episode 3) -- but I need to make sure that the files that I have on YouTube have been downloaded and uploaded to Github. I haven't done that yet, but if you'd make us of them, then I'll try to do that soon.

I understand. In any case, even these subtitles are enough for a small group to watch the episodes. And if they are still corrected, that will be great. In the end, only one question will remain: how to distribute this entire “masterpiece”, because YouTube is no longer an option.

Definitely good enough to get the general gist of what's going on.

I could possibly upload them to archive.org -- that's a good place to archive media.

I'm not sure if they support subtitles or not -- I could possibly burn (embed) the subtitles into the videos. They wouldn't be configurable at that point, but at least they would be easy for people to watch.

Just saw this announcement today. I'm going to try it out for ALFA and see how well it works.

Here's a small clip done with Eleven Labs' Auto-Dubber. It's not the best clip for it, but it's not bad.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eMS_ytwiskIFRddcXFyMZpaYDs30jTt1/view?usp=sharing

I'm going to try some other clips from other episodes and see how well it does.

I tried uploading this to YouTube, but it blocked it on copyright grounds. Looks like YouTube won't be a good place for any of this content in the future.
