To complicate issues: Matlab 2015b comes with a hdf5 version newer than the ubuntu 14.04 version. Redirecting them leads to crashes of Matlab.
If I understand this correctly we would need to build nix and nix-mx against these libraries to work properly.

@gicmo: did not find the headers... hdf5 library version is 1.8.12 (libhdf5.so.8.0.1) libboost is version 1.49
