Doesn't startup in Windows 10 Creators Update (1703) #269
Comments
Now, I don't know how to get that info, but I do have the same issue. However, to provide something that could be of use, I can tell that v027 does work for me, as does original putty in its newest version. |
Yes, by the looks of it v027 does work. Thanks for the info. EDIT: Also I found the error print out in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive |
No problems whatsoever, Win 10 Education 1703 and 029. |
Could you please check if you are using AVAST AntiVirus? |
I am using AVAST. I don't know if it is worth switching that to another antivirus program since v027 is working fine for me now. |
They implemented many new "features" (e.g. Gaming Mode) in AVAST in the latest version - i had issues with other programs/games too so i switched to a different AV. |
I can confirm, it's AVAST and the Windows 10 Creator Update seems to be coincidental. |
Weird that it stopped working after the W10CU and not after any AVAST update. |
Oh good. 😢 Thanks so much for working this out, everyone. I have no idea what the problem is, or what I can do. |
I reported it as a false positive to AVAST at https://www.avast.com/en-gb/false-positive-file-form.php, mentioning that it's a tool used by many of the kind of people their average users might ask advice on which AV to use 😃 |
As a workaround, you could add the putty path to the excluded file paths in order to get the latest version working.
Putty should start right after applying the settings, no reboot required 😄 |
After upgrade to Win 10 1703 i've the same problem... without AVAST/antivirus
:( |
Same problem with AVG 2016 and Windows 10. To exclude:
|
Not sure if it's caused by a combination of Windows 10 creator update and AVAST, but if you exclude in the "Behavior Shield" component of AVAST, putty starts normally. |
Having the same issue, can't use the whitelisting workaround since the antivirus on my machine is controlled by the IT admin. Strangely it's not actually logged as blocked in the antivirus, but startup fails wtih exception 0xc0000409 regardless. |
After yesterday's install of I have Windows 10 1803 (still no 1809 available for me). AV is Kaspersky - disabling it do not change anything. |
Seems like a buffer overflow.
