In order for IDEA fetures like Search and Find usages to work, one needs to choose the sources jar via the blue bar after opening a decompiled mc class. IDE Tips and Tricks only explicitly mentions running the genSources gradle task, which lets one browse the sources but search won't work.

I'm not the only one to not realize this, this has been asked on discord before, actually several times.
