If you were unable to get EFES to run after following the instructions re installing Java and downloading and unzipping the archive onto your desktop, and no one at the troubleshooting session was able to help, here is the workaround. The following will enable you to transform the EpiDoc files using Oxygen, into HTML files that you can open in your browser. It will not index or provide a search interface for you, but it will serve the "proofing" requirement for this workshop.

Workaround for those people who are not able to use EFES this week

  1. Download this zipped folder onto your desktop, extract into a new folder and rename the folder epidoc.
  2. Inside the subfolder Quickrefs you will find a file named Running_Epidoc_Stylesheets.pdf which should give you instructions on how to load the Oxygen project, and run the transformation scenario that will transform one EpiDoc XML file on your computer into one HTML file that you can open in a web browser.
  3. Note that this will not give you any indices or search options, and the Stylesheets may be a couple years out of date, but it should give you an idea how your EpiDoc file will look.
