Patched G7 App HOWTO
In spring 2022, the Dexcom G7 received its CE certificate and was sold at the end of October '22.
Noteworthy is the fact that the G7 system, compared to the G6, does not smooth the values, neither in the app, nor in the reader. More details about this here. Consequently, the values have to be smoothed to be able to use them sensibly in AAPS.

To avoid confusion, it must be explained that the patched Dexcom G7 app is NOT the same as the BYODA. The author of the BYODA has focused on the G6 and the G ONE and has not made any changes to the Dexcom G7 app other than a compatibility patch. More details here.
A recent patch of the Dexcom G7 app can be found here and all the built-in changes are explained in detail. Currently (as of 02/'23) these are:
- Broadcast of the values to AAPS (ATTENTION: Here a special AAPS version is needed. See below!)
- Deactivate Dexcom compatibility check
- Decrease required Android version
- Turn on screenshots
- Download patched.apk here.
- With this app, you can use Dexcom G6 with any Android smartphone.
- Uninstall the original Dexcom G7 app or the patched Dexcom app if you used it before.
- Install the downloaded APK.
- Enter sensor code / take photo of qr code and enter it in the patched app.
- Follow the general recommendations for CGM hygiene and sensor placement found here.
- After the warm-up phase, the values are displayed as usual in the G7 app.
To be able to receive the values from the G7 App in AAPS and to smooth the received values, a change in AAP is necessary. This modified version of AAPs can be found here. To create this version you have to follow the instructions, but you have to change the following when downloading the code from Github (described here):
- Copy the following URL
https://github.com/DiaKEM/dexcom-g7-aaps
and paste it into the URL textbox (3) in Android Studio. - Follow the rest as mentioned to compile the modified AAPS version with G7 support.
- Select 'BYODA' in the configuration generator.
- If AAPS does not receive any values, switch to another BG source and then back to 'BYODA' to invoke the query for approving data exchange between AAPS and BYODA. The smoothing of glucose values can be activated and deactivated via Settings > Overview settings at 'Smoothing of incoming glucose values'. Smoothing MUST be enabled for meaningful use of the G7 values.
- Download and install Xdrip+: xdrip
- As data source in Xdrip "Companion App" must be selected and under Advanced Settings > Bluetooth Settings > "Companion Bluetooth" must be enabled.
- In AndroidAPS select > Configuration > BG source > xDrip+. Adjust the xDrip+ settings according to the explanations on the xDrip+ settings page xDrip+ settings
