Hi guys,

when I first heard about the German Corona warn app uses the Exposure API from Google / Apple I was very disappointed. Since I have LineageOS with no Google services I had the fear that I will not be able to actually use the app, despite it was discussed as a key factor to control the pandemic. Also people without this app could be locked from public life, directly or indirectly via. social pressure. Everyone could be forced to give up their Android alternatives and return to the official play service from Google.

Now I saw that there is a project to create your own Exposure API service that will work on phones without Google. I found you via. corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android#75

I think your project is very valuable, this has the potential to save free open source Android alternatives from extinction. Probably you don't even know how key your project is, but it is, everyone who has an interest in keeping free open source Android alternatives alive should support this project.

I have no time, I work all day despite corona, but I have money. Is there a way to donate?

Best,
Mario

I would donate, too, if that helps.

We don't have a donation site RN, I think our goal should currently be our code rather than taking care about things all around our project :)

In other words the best donation we can get right now is contribution in any form. ... Maybe even a website that would later allow donation ;)

@HerrBert233 I think you are over-emphasizing the importance of the app quite a lot. It is only one of several measures of fighting the epidemic. Also, the "70% of the population" theory
(it was 60%, by the way) has also recently been cleared up. So the effectiveness of the app is probably not dependent neither on the Google-free Android users nor on users with older smartphones.

Also, supporting older smartphones is a big pile of work, so let's first get the base functionality working, and then people can have a look at older phones well.

Well, if you want to get people on board with your project, I would not tell them how unimportant and dispensable the project is 😉

@HerrBert233 It's not my project, I am not even involved (yet). But I hope this was in line with what the developers think themselves.

Please open a new issue for this toppic, it does not belong into an issue about donation and website.

However as I said already donation is not what we need. Its rather contributions. If we don't get contributions I fear the project might seen get to a full halt.

Ok, sorry for posing in the wrong place. I thought this could be about contributions in general. I will open a new ticket. I hope this project will not get to a full halt! This is why I wanted to help you to attract support by a strong message and "corporate identity". I was trying to spin public opinion in a way that many others and maybe SAP and Telekom would have officially supported your project, it already worked, here: corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android#75 (comment) This was a reaction directly to my post. "What I can't believe is, that the SAP earns 9.5 mio € for this App and is not able to support developers to build a Google API free version" This is the mindset I wanted to create.
