can we make the blank issue the issue folks open at the top #76
Comments
To encourage more thorough and informative issue reporting, I recommend reconsidering the use of empty issue templates. Currently, many of the issues in this repository lack sufficient details, which hinders effective problem-solving and communication. |
Hi @maehr -- I very much appreciate the formatted issues--and the issues you send using it, like the one about accessibility you sent recently, are extremely clear and helpful because of them -- but I do believe they might be intimidating for users with less experience using GitHub and reporting issues. We don't want to stand in the way of these users' simply noting something, and my comment here (admittedly cursory and flip; apologies) is meant to indicate that I think having an easy, blank option within the issue template for users that might not fully understand what category their issue corresponds to would be helpful and would prevent the intimidation that even I feel opening issues in this repository. I'll talk with Evan and Olivia about this too. My suggestion would be to simply raise the very small note at the bottom "Don’t see your issue here? Open a blank issue." into the boxes themselves, with some explanatory language explaining to users that if they're unsure which category their issue fits, they can still leave us a note using a blank issue. |
Hi @dcnb Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. I understand your concerns about the potential intimidation factor for less experienced GitHub users when faced with our current issue template. I'd also like to propose an additional avenue for these users. For those who might find the issue reporting process a bit daunting, they could alternatively use the Discussions section at https://github.com/orgs/CollectionBuilder/discussions. This platform provides a more informal and conversational space, which might be less intimidating for novice users. It's a great place for them to ask questions, share ideas, or seek help without the formality of an issue template. Let me know what you decide. I'll be happy to help you implement an empty issue as well. Best regards, |
I find the issue templates a little confusing/intimidating -- I can see value, but I'd like to have a catchall at the top and that would be the blank issue
