Trouble getting API keys to work for Google Maps

I finally managed to get a Google API key, but only for the GeocodingAPI. I have yet to get it to work though.

When I go to the People menu, there are no Map options - is the mapping only on the People Dashboard?

When I go to Google, I found the Geocoding API but I can't figure out which is the "render" api.

I was going to post the page with my Geocoding key... but now I can't find it. It was the only key there though.

I did find this other page with a "client secret" on it:

But that doesn't make any difference either.

So far I can't get any information out of the dashboard Maps. I tried the "Update All Family Coordinates".

I can't tell if it was supposed to say something other than 0 families with no Geodata. There's no more buttons or status messages - good or bad.

But there's no data on any of the families. When I look up a family afterwards, the lat & long fields are still blank.

When I try clicking on the Family Map button, it doesn't work.

I finally realized "check the JS error console" meant in the browser debug window, not some log file, maybe under Admin.

As could be expected, it was the render key.

Why is there no error on the geocoding - did it work? When I checked the Google console, there didn't seem to be any calls.

I'm baffled. And I couldn't make heads or tails of the Google documentation. HELP?!
