I'm trying JLCPCB and they are having all sorts of issues understanding the gerber files. I've separated them in to two separate zips, flex_B and flex_F, but I think the fact that one is mirrored is really confusing them. Should I try to use Kicad to "unmirror" those? Thanks.

Hi,

We and others ordered them with JLC, so they can definetly manufacture them.
The B and F stand for Back and Front layers.

Did you grab the gerber from the release section ? Do you have maybe screenshots of the conversation with JLC ?

I did grab them from the release section. I created 2 zip from the contents:

  • flex-B_*.gbr + flex-Edge_Cuts.gbr + flex-PTH.drl
  • flex-F_*.gbr + flex-Edge_Cuts.gbr + flex-PTH.drl

Email conversation:

Hi Sir or madam,
Well got your order with many thanks~
Sorry to bother you, but there is an issue that we want to confirm with you before proceeding.
There is no bottom solder mask layer, is that normal? If it is normal, there are 2 option for reference. There is no bare copper available.(if it is wrong, we will help you activate the replace file button that you can fix and reupload).
A : We cover it all with tin.—(can solder things)
B: we cover it all with solder mask ink.—(can’t solder anything)
Your early reply will be highly appreciated!
Thank you so much!

My reply:

The zip files both have a mask.gbr, so I'm a little confused. One is designed to be printed and used "upside down" so they can both use the same board outline. flex_F is right side up (layers are in regular order) and flex_B is upside down (layers are in reverse order).

I also attached a picture of the final boards.

Their reply:

Dear Customer,
Sorry that the image cannot help to resolve this issue since we cannot see the bottom copper layer per the photo.
As like below image shown, there is no bottom copper, bottom solder mask file.
Could you please kindly advise?

Hi, don't create 2 files. Just send them the one file with top, bottom and drill files, unmodified, from the release section.
That's why they can't go ahead - they need the bottom files as well.

I actually did that first, then canceled that order because they couldn't figure it out. They were going to print everything together on the same PCB from what i could tell. Unless I'm the one with the misunderstanding.

You need to pay additional 21.26 for your order. 2.62_Y2【4567235A_Y2】
Reason:
1.The order info shows that there is only one design , but actually, there are 6 different designs in your file, so there will be an extra cost for it if you want to make it as show in your file. Please kindly choose the correct designs when you place your order next time.

Ok, I think I'll try to resubmit the entire zip. Is there anything here that needs to be changed?
